One of the other things I have read is that the protein skimmer goes after the fuge section. I have also seen that the fuge section needs to be huge compared to what we are used to running normally. I don't know if there is a formula out there, but they do say it can be done with a calc reactor. I am not sure what algae they suggest running though. I have been interested too, but I have run into problems when I stop doing water changes.
@MuralReef the sump I think i’m Building will have a large fuge area. I’m copying the trigger triton 44 basically but with glass. They say a 10-20% is the display works well. Mine will be a bit over that. They want 10X Turnove which I will not be able to have but I can get to maybe 6 times. My skimmer is external and runs via a manifold from the return pump that is after the fuge area.
You probably know this already, but Triton has not been out long enough for any of the folks using it to know how it is. This could be like any new method where you need three or four years to know anything solid, and even then the only good reviews might be from folks who know nothing else. I might suggest that you let other people figure it out and stick with what is obviously working. I worry about heavy metal buildup (they cannot test for but a fraction of it and some of it is not testable), chloride buildup and the imbalance of additions that come all in one bottle. It is hard to beat the balanced addition of a CaRx... and ease and cost.
JBNY is good at his craft and has started a very limited water change regime. It is not Triton, but similar. I am interested to see where he is at in 2022.
I could go on about this for hours, but if you look at the acropora tanks that have gone this route, they are impressive until you see what is missing... a lot of the deepwaters, milles, etc. that they were growing before. Experienced eyes can see this whereas the inexperienced cannot - kinda like the guys who were gushing at the dead-from-the-bottom-up displays at Fish Crew in FO CO and could not see the huge problems.

Welded and painted a rack for equipment and sump. Also ordered glass for a 44x18x15 sump. Fuge area will hold 29 gallons of water so 15% of the tank. Plume for the fuge. Looking into lights for the fuge. Leaning towards led’s from Amazon that peak in the red and blue range. They are pretty cheep and are said to out perform the Home Depot fluorescent bulbs.

Start of the sump/fuge. Will be mostly fuge as I have an external skimmer.
PRO glass in Greeley. They are great. The local fish store uses them all the time for stuff so they were used to weird sizes and such.
I didn’t cut the old tank down. It seemed like a waste of a tank. Someone can refurbish that old tank and have a really nice sump or display. I already cut out all the old silicone and such. Just needs some elbow grease and love.
