I will definitely leave it as an option if things stay the same. On the third day or it staying put. Removed the transitions from the program, completed a factory reset, and then ensured this pump didn't have a drastic change in percent power between modes.

Double side tape on the dry side is a great idea. Wish I had thought about it with mine. I understand the worry about taking paint off if you move it.

I used acrylic sheets on the dry side and cut out circles the size of the dry side. I mounted that acrylic up against the glass so it supports the dry side so it can’t slide down.

Not sure if that would help your issue with the magnets not holding well enough. It would take some pressure off. You could even strap across the back of the dry side so it can’t fall out.

The only issue then is securing the acrylic in place.....and you’re back to the double side tape issue. :) Or get creative securing the acrylic. It’s a more complicated solution.

I like the double side tape option. Simple. Smart.

Two votes for the tape. If the pump falls of again, tape it is! Just have to learn how to paint glass if I ever move it, good learning experience.

Perks of just finishing the basement our selves. Have a ton construction tools, parts, and items. I will make sure to let you all know if it falls off again and then I tape. So far going on 4 days with no issues.
 
I don't think you need to throw it. I'd let it take over that half of the fuge. AsyAs prune it you could dry it and store it in a Ziploc until you have tangs!

That is a good idea. I was going to start doing it this weekend, but went camping instead. I might start doing it this week. It grows so fast though and it will be a few weeks/months before any of the tangs reach the DT. I can still say it and give it to anyone who wants it.

I think I have found a way to put a power head on the front end of the peninsula without having a magnet on the glass pane and not have a cord deep into the tank. Let me know your thoughts!


1) Utilize a maxspect gyre XF350 for its ability to be so close the the water surface. I have heard negative thing about these magnets on anything larger than 1/2" thick.
2) Utilize the double Eurobrace glass trim on my tank

Idea:
Build a bracket that places a piece of 1/2" acrylic approximately a 1/2" above the water. Attach the gyre to this bracket which will be approximately 4" into the tank from the front pane and submerged in the water approximately 1". This will ensure the cord is barley visible in the water. The pump will come across as "floating" in the tank.

I did use a SLA 3D printer to create the angled bracket portion of this for generation 1 thinking I will change it and didn't want to waste the time making acrylic for this. I can 3D print a bracket design in 3 hours and without access to a mill I can easily make the bracket portion currently. I can make the bracket portion in a few pieces of acrylic and might do that when the final design is confirmed.

Also need to purchase the gyre itself since I created the bracket dimensions around it...

Generation 2 Ideas:

Build up a splash protection wall for the dry side magnet and maybe a removable top?

Good acrylic work but you might want to extend it down into the water more. Having the pump that close to the surface is going to have issues with sucking in air. You will likely create small whirlpools that will make loud slurping sounds, and possibly lots of bubbles, every time it does

MASC recently aquired a donated setup, and one of the components was a Maxspect Gyre XF350 and the controller. If you would be interested in it let me know, 100% of the proceedes go to the club which is pretty awesome! We'd cut ya a pretty good deal over new ;) I cleaned it up, and tested it and everything looks/works great!

I like the idea here, have you thought of mounting them vertically instead of horizontally so that you have a lower profile in the tank? I thought this looked pretty good (https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/b...a-with-rotary-drum-filter-build.534230/page-5 see post #95) but could be improved if the magnets weren't on the glass. I think you could build something very similar to what you have now, using a longer more slender piece of acrylic would let you drop it further into the tank. If you can stop it from touching the glass that would be ideal, but if it needs to I would just look for some silicone bumpers (like tunze has, I think they're silicone) and use those for vibration dampening/scratching on the glass. I don' know if both sides of the magnet are waterproof on the gyres however, but you could always buy one side of a tunze magnet and use that for the opposite side of the wet side gyre magnet if the one that comes with the pump isn't supposed to be submerged.
 
I think you may be able to hide 80% of the pump if you can get the acrylic piece to be angled in the corner of the glass, with the thick black silicone seams they should hide it pretty well!

I am re printing a longer bracket portion to see the effects of different heights and find that sweet spot! We will see once I actually get a pump. Do you have one? If so what is the highest you have gotten it to mount?
