I like the idea here, have you thought of mounting them vertically instead of horizontally so that you have a lower profile in the tank? I thought this looked pretty good (https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/b...a-with-rotary-drum-filter-build.534230/page-5 see post #95) but could be improved if the magnets weren't on the glass. I think you could build something very similar to what you have now, using a longer more slender piece of acrylic would let you drop it further into the tank. If you can stop it from touching the glass that would be ideal, but if it needs to I would just look for some silicone bumpers (like tunze has, I think they're silicone) and use those for vibration dampening/scratching on the glass. I don' know if both sides of the magnet are waterproof on the gyres however, but you could always buy one side of a tunze magnet and use that for the opposite side of the wet side gyre magnet if the one that comes with the pump isn't supposed to be submerged.

This is also a good idea.... I really like your idea of buying a tunze magnet to do the submerging. Even on that note they do sell stronger magnets than what I have heard about gyre... If I had a submersible dry side that opens up a ton of doors...

I am going to start with one pump in the middle for now since I have 4 MP 40's blowing down the sides already. Then see what it looks like and make adjustments from there based off of rock work etc.

Thanks to Andrew and Chris. I was able to get a Gyre this weekend.

I did end up making the bracket taller so the acrylic piece just touches the surface of the water.
I am pretty happy with how this turned out. No cord or magnets on the front pane.

Now I just need to play around with the modes to find out max flow I can use before vortex with air bubbles begin.

Patent that s#!t, what a fantastic idea and look! I saw what you were planning, then we talked about it yesterday and I thought I understood...but that soooooo not what my brain had in mind. I'm super impressed, that's awesome. Nice job!!!

Pretty darn unobtrusive!

I am pretty happy with how it turn out. Just dialing in the depth vs power of the pump. Right now it can go to about 60% without air vortex's

HA! Appreciate it! I don't think I can patent a bracket, but if you can... It would be a nice side job to pay for the rest of this hobby. Since you were around for the generation of the idea. I will let you use the idea free of royalties, just can't have your pump back.

I am re printing a longer bracket portion to see the effects of different heights and find that sweet spot! We will see once I actually get a pump. Do you have one? If so what is the highest you have gotten it to mount?
Don't have a gyre specifically but I know with my vortechs, both the mp40, and mp10, both need to be 6 inches or more below the water line, or they pull in air via whirlpool and make load slurping sounds when they do. Have tried many pumps over the years and they all are pretty consistent in this issue. So I would expect gyres to have similar issues, and likely would be even worse with a gyre since it may create multiple whirlpools due to its length

I will be honest going on day four at 70% and no issues with it including all of the ones you described. The bracket plate sits at the water surface, and then the total height of the pump is what is in the water. I think the flow deflectors really help with this. I am very happy with how it is working.

I have no idea yet. It will be based on variability locally and online. Fish are hard to come by these current days... Got a recommendation on best LFS for fish ( more than clownfish and chromis)

HA my bad! Yes they are two skunk tiles. They aren't super easy to find but not rare. They do best in pairs, burrow under rocks to create a "home", stick their heads out of the water and stare you when you have food, goofy fish and that is why I got them.

Do it!!! You could do a small dish of sand in the tank so they have something to hide in at night. Then you can remove it if you need to medicate the tank, clean it and reuse it later if needed.

Honestly if it was almost any other leopard I would. Just Moyers isn't kinda.. average in looks. Going to see how the ornate does. Personal QT Sand box is installed as of yesterday.
