Got the sump and water line from my basement plumbed over the weekend.
1" drain with ball valve feeding 2 drain hoses that empty into a 7" filter cup in the skimmer section, followed by a bubble trap to the return section. Rio 1290 gph (will be upgraded soon) feeding the 3/4" return line which splits to feed the fuge (controlled by a gate valve) that spills back into the return chamber. The return line has 2 capped T's in case I want to add reactors later, followed by a ball valve and back to the tank. ATO is a float controlled by a Spectrapure unit. I glued all the sump pipes with aquarium silicone so if I need to change something it will be easier. I will most likely use pvc glue once I am happy with it.
The line from my basement will serve as a fill and a drain for water changes. Basically its a 3/4" line with a T downstairs. One split goes to a drain pipe, the other goes to my mixing container. Both lines have ball valves, and the line from the mixing bucket has a check valve to prevent water from back siphoning from the tank upstairs. The line comes up through the floor and there is a ball valve for it in the stand that attaches to a vinyl line with a hook on return pipe.
I do realize I will lose a little NSW with each water change, but it beats hauling buckets around! Without getting into too much detail, I didnt run separate lines because it was a complete pain to get just the one pipe from basement to ground level. The walls between the levels dont line up and I had to drill a big hole in my hardwood floor. I didnt want to put a second hole if I didnt have to.
The only thing I dont have figured out is how to start the syphon for the drain line. I was thinking maybe put a small air line tube on top of the hook on return line like the old style overflow u tubes used to have.
