I've decided to upgrade my 75 to a 150. I don't have many long walls in my house, and I didn't want to wrestle a big tank into the basement, so I went with a 150 tall. It fits nicely in the kitchen and anyone who comes over will be able to see it. I plan on moving all my livestock, rock and sand from the 75 plus a few new things. Once I have a little more time I'll list my equipment and livestock, and stocking list. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get water from my mixing station downstairs to the tank upstairs without having to haul buckets. I'm also trying to grow my arms longer so I can reach the bottom of this thing...

Congrats on your upgrade. Just a word of caution regarding your stand. You may want to consider removing the casters. Once the tank and sump are filled you will be knocking on 1,500 lbs and I could see those casters failing. From the pictures the casters look plastic, but maybe they are steel and I just can’t tell.

They are steel, the stand is super beefy. It was donated to the club, and I believe the previous owner had a 125 on it. Thanks for checking though!

Got the sump and water line from my basement plumbed over the weekend.
1" drain with ball valve feeding 2 drain hoses that empty into a 7" filter cup in the skimmer section, followed by a bubble trap to the return section. Rio 1290 gph (will be upgraded soon) feeding the 3/4" return line which splits to feed the fuge (controlled by a gate valve) that spills back into the return chamber. The return line has 2 capped T's in case I want to add reactors later, followed by a ball valve and back to the tank. ATO is a float controlled by a Spectrapure unit. I glued all the sump pipes with aquarium silicone so if I need to change something it will be easier. I will most likely use pvc glue once I am happy with it.

The line from my basement will serve as a fill and a drain for water changes. Basically its a 3/4" line with a T downstairs. One split goes to a drain pipe, the other goes to my mixing container. Both lines have ball valves, and the line from the mixing bucket has a check valve to prevent water from back siphoning from the tank upstairs. The line comes up through the floor and there is a ball valve for it in the stand that attaches to a vinyl line with a hook on return pipe.

I do realize I will lose a little NSW with each water change, but it beats hauling buckets around! Without getting into too much detail, I didnt run separate lines because it was a complete pain to get just the one pipe from basement to ground level. The walls between the levels dont line up and I had to drill a big hole in my hardwood floor. I didnt want to put a second hole if I didnt have to.

The only thing I dont have figured out is how to start the syphon for the drain line. I was thinking maybe put a small air line tube on top of the hook on return line like the old style overflow u tubes used to have.

If anyone has ideas or suggestions about my setup please let me know! View attachment 17372

Water in the tank! Rocks in the tank! No leaks in my plumbing! Things are starting to shape up. Gonna make a few tweaks to the aquascape but overall Im pretty happy with it. I'm hoping for a quick cycle, I used 50 gallons of water from my existing tanks, and most of the rock is from my 75 so there should be lots of good bacteria. I added Dr. Tims ammonia yesterday and will be monitoring over the week. Once it is safe, I will transfer my fish, followed by my softies and lps and finally my sps. View attachment 17484

If you used rock from a live tank, then you have all that you need and are all set.
Well, my ammonia badge and test are still registering some ammonia so I'm gonna play it safe and wait it out. I should mention not all the rock came from my current tank, and some that did was out of water for several hours while the cement was drying. But there is over 40lbs that went straight over so there is definitely some denitrifying bacteria in there somewhere!

Added the first fish tonight! A pajama cardinal I've had for about a year in my 75. My nitrates were pretty high after cycling which is why I didnt do it sooner. As long as he does ok I'll be adding the rest of my fish from the 75 over the next few days. View attachment 17580

Got everything transferred from the 75 last weekend. Lost a couple acro frags and got a few more that look a little rough, but everything else is doing well. Fish are happy, and I even found a missing wrasse in my overflow that I for sure thought was a gonner!

I still need to move a few things around and glue some corals down, also need to tidy up the wires inside the cabinet but the hard part is done!
