looking good! any reason you went with one big heater instead of a couple smaller ones? i just set up my tank and figured a couple would be good back up.

curious if i was wrong is all. thanks and sick tank!
This heater was actually just a throw in when I bought the tank so I'm using it. I had bought a similar but lower wattage one I am now debating using alongside vs holding as a backup if the first fails.
I think you have the right idea with multiple smaller ones.

Also got the first fish in the tank yesterday! Nice little Potter's Angel

IMHO 1 big heater or several smaller heaters is the wrong question. What heater controller are you using, that IS the question?
(you said "with probe" so hopefully you already have one?)

The BRS heater / controller I got actually looks a lot like that Inkbird - hopefully it works out. When I ran the two temp probes (2 heater / controller setups) side by side testing they matched.

Tank is continuing the progress nicely. I think this is the most life I've had in the first weeks of a tank. Visible pods all over even now that I have 3 fish, fuge is growing Chaeto and hair algae like crazy and I am killing about 1 new aiptasia each day as they spring up. Coralline algae is showing up already too which seems nuts this soon. Definitely pleased with this live rock and the Algaebarn pods / phyto / bacteria

Something popped up on Diver's Den yesterday that I couldn't pass up hopefully it comes in okay and I'll share some pics next week

Good luck with the MAG. If you need Cipro let me know I have some. Don't forget those get massive, love light, and tons of flow.
Thanks! I had one years ago so know some of what to expect. I'm running my lights at 65% and I bet I'll end up cranking them up for the Mag eventually but things are growing so I'm not gonna change it for now.
This Mag took about a day to walk 6" directly into the flow from where I thought it would end up and since then has stayed put fully inflated with the mouth + tentacles looking good. No inflate / deflate cycle for now thankfully but if I see that I will take you up on the Cipro. (think I saw you can order it on Chewy now too) The last couple nights I've seen that classic balling Mag posture. DD definitely isn't the cheapest source but it came in 6x bagged w/ heat packs etc & healthy. Curious how much it might color up down the road.

Looking for Digis, Zoas and Rics if anyone need to clear out the their frag rack

quick updates

Livestock as of today
Fish: Pink Skunk Clown pair, Molly Miller blenny, Potter's angel (thinking about adding an Orchid dottyback and/or Leopard wrasse)
Inverts: Magnifica anemone, Wildfire BTA, 8 SPS frags and a few zoas plus Trochus, Cerith and Astraea snails

Got a Tropic Marin Alk test kit and their Carbo-Calcium product which I'm starting to dose. This is always the part of reefing that makes me nervous but my coralline is going nuts and the frags are growing so I figure I better be dosing if I want my big 3 in line. Water tested at a 7 for Alk which is about where I would expect to be after water changes as my only replenishment. Plan is to start with 10ml/day and hope not to see much of a change in that # when I test again.

Sure would be nice if the clowns showed any interest in one another or the anemones but that's how reefing goes. Since I got the blenny the other fish seems more out and about.
