Since you use biodegradable plastic are you worried about breakdown especially in the probe holder?
I was/am, everything I read says that that process will take years though. I'll have the opportunity to monitor it and see if it is changing with time. It seems some of the issues with biodegredation has more to do with the biological matter that builds up on the plastic and speeds the process. The probe holder is the only thing I am going to allow to be in direct contact with water, so I should be able to monitor it fairly easily.

What about possible contaminants in the water from breakdown?
PLA supposedly breaks down to corn starch or sugar cane. At least that is what I read.

"Poly(lactic acid) or polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable and bioactive thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch (in the United States and Canada), tapioca roots, chips or starch (mostly in Asia), or sugarcane (in the rest of the world)."
