Black rock under mushroom?

    Anyone have an idea what the black stuff is? It's not hurting the mushroom, I think. It's pretty solid and doesn't budge from the frag

    Tough to tell for the pic. Certainly could be sponge. Maybe black sand that was stuck in some glue when a frag was glued down?

    Um. That looks like a Anemone of some sort. Not a mushroom. Are you sure that's what it is.

    IF it is an Anemone, it looks in really bad shape.

    Maybe a ricordia? just doesn't appear to be a mushroom... Am I insane?

    Looks like a ricordea that is mostly closed up. Commonly referred to as a type of mushroom coral.
