can you de-rim a 40 gallon breeder

Hey,

I just got a 40 gallon breeder and want to take the rim off but not sure if it will hold up long term, has anyone done this before? Its a petco $1 per gallon aqueon (pretty sure) aquarium. I would also like to drill it but it says temered glass do not drill on the bottom of it, can it be drilled if im careful? Thanks for and advice.

40's are pretty thin glass. Not sure if removing the trim wouldnt cause excess bowing. Do not drill the bottom, tempered glass cannot be drilled no matter how careful abd slow you take it. A tetra brand 40 breeder can be drilled on all sides as long as its not the bottom.

can't drill tempered glass. I believe the sides are not tempered for 40g breeder.

Awesome, thanks for the help. drilling the sides will be fine, now to find a 1.5 in glass bit.
