I just got this guy and need help identifying what the dime size blemishes are on both sides of his head. He's about 10 inches long and was being kept in a 20G tank after the owner took it out of his 120. The previous owner told me that it had these when he got it two years ago, but I'm wondering if this is something that I can treat.

Guessing its HLLE. I suggest reading up as there are lots of thoughts regarding it and some are contradictory of each other. So.....ya read up and gather your own theory

Yup. HLLE. Don't focus on the discussions that cause it - you have it. Read up on the cure. It will need lots of high quality food - if it will eat pellets, then jam it full for New Life Spectrum pellets and PE Mysis (not the knockoff kind). It will heal up a bit over time. It will always have the scar.

If you have this in FOWLR, then get the salinity up to 1.026, if it is not already.

If you do nothing, it will die eventually.

Good water quality and good foods will help immensely. It will take time though.
