Hello everyone. After being gone from the hobby for 5 years, I have noticed a few changes in technology. First and foremost is LED lighting. In 2007, the only LED tanks were in Japan. Now I see a lot of LED products. What are the advantages besides heat?

Is there anything really new about filtration? The refugium still seems to be the dominant filter system with aggressive skimming.

Just trying to catch up. Thanks.

Biggest pro for LEDs is 1. last a LONG time! no replacing bulbs every 6 months, 2. Can dim them, 3. with dimming can be very customizable. as for filtration i like skimming but currently do not have it hooked up...just using good ol LR

There have been a lot of advancements in filtration and nutrient export. Bio pellets, GFO, and ultra nutrient "absorbers." I chose bio pellets , you can find my journal under general reef keeping. Good luck to you!
