I was reading that peroxide will loosen it so you can net it out then you use barley straw to keep it away am I right in thinkinhg this?

If you start using H202, chances are you'll have to keep using it. It does allow it to break away easier, but you are also dissolving some of the algae, which puts those organics right back into your system. You might also cause a dip in available dissolved oxygen by killing off all of the algae at once, which could be problematic depending upon your filtration and bioload.

I agree with tedious manual removal...it'll take a healthy dose of peroxide to allow it to break free so that you can net it away...not worth the risk IMHO...though it's been YEARS since I worked on a pond.

Get an old toilet bowl brush, cut the loop, and attach it to the end of a pole. Twirl it around the algae and you'll be able to get chunks out at a time.
