Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't oxide O3? I realize that's ozone, but I thought the -ide was 3 bonds

Ooo going back to chem.... Umm no I do that think so. Im pretty sure ide means 2 elements are making up the compound.

Usually there is a peefix that states how many there are. Like mono- di-, tri- and so on.

I think. Could be wrong been a really long time since my last Chem class.

no its -2 of O. but you typically only see oxide used for metals.
