My used 120 Oceanic has tanked. (Ha!) CaRx regulator drift has led to more alk swings that I can count, most SPS are dead or look horrible. It's time to break the tank down and start over. Here she was at her peak:

On Saturday, I put a deposit down with Aquatic Art for a Planet Aquarium rimless 220 (72 x 30 x 24) and began an aquascape snowpocalypse project. Half my rocks are buried under snow, but here's the other half: https://i.imgur.com/SwFgLjI.mp4

Looking forward to seeing it! You are going to love the 30” from front to back. Mine is 65x30x22. Wish I had the extra 2” in height as the corals are growing out of the water causing flow issues. Planet makes a great tank!

What kind of equipment are you thinking of using on this bad boy?
Cool! So how are you going to dose calcium and alkalinity this time? Reactor or two part?
I ended up buying a DaStaco XtremA Model A-2 Calcium Reactor to replace the old reactor. Between coming up the learning curve on that one and a bit of laziness on my part, I created a few more alk swings, but now I've got it figured out. I think that's the first significant piece of *new* equipment I've purchased besides a set of Gyres. So I plan on hooking that up to the new tank once the Ca/Alk demand gets high enough. I think I'll start out dosing two-part, probably with a Triton. I'm tired of the used Honda approach, this one is going to be a Cadillac.

I haven't decided on a sump yet, but want to build up to a rollermat - DC pump recirc skimmer - algae scrubber filtration setup. DaStaCo-Trident-DOS supplementation. Automatic water change system using dosing pumps (maybe. ok, probably). 3-4 Radion XR30 Gen 5s. Dual return pumps.

That's the current dream. We'll see where I end up.

So far, the dog is into it. Sea Tzu:

Sounds like a great plan. My AWC system changed my life, no more buckets and better stability. Dogs love setting up tanks! My Jack Russell was involved in every step.

Good grief. I started this thread in March. Well... a shortage of low iron glass as well as who knows what else, and the tank finally arrived in town in late July and I was able to take delivery from Cris's team at AA two weeks ago. Teenager for scale:

But... the 16" overflow plumbing didn't match the holes drilled into the side of the tank:

So we had Planet Aquarium send us the bigger 20" overflow, which arrived yesterday.
But... the bulkheads on the overflow had the same spacing as the smaller overflow. After some discussion, it turns out that a month ago Planet changed the spacing of the 20" overflow bulkheads to match the 16" overflow. In other words I got a tank with the old spacing and an overflow with the new spacing. So Planet is looking for an older model overflow in their warehouse... Or they will "expedite" the making of a new one if they cant find one.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna paint the inside of the stand white and start figuring out sump placement and plumbing.

Nice, that's a pretty tank! Finally back in the game lol, although kind of shitty of Planet for the overflow oversight, but hopefully they get it straightened out sooner rather then later

Tank looks great!
how did someone not check the spacing before shipping it out to you? smh
Hope they get you that overflow ASAP

Cris didn't want to make any promises until he had it in his hands but the proper overflow is due to arrive tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I painted the inside of the stand white and caulked all the seams around the bottom inside of the stand. Then I tried tried to fit the sump in and had to remove one of the supports that I had caulked in, but that's an easy fix.
