Selling a Super Reef Octopus 3000 Internal skimmer, with almost new bubble blaster 3000 pump. I know these things are awesome which is why I've been hanging onto it thinking I was going to do a big frag tank or something. Just not in the cards, so I'm gonna let it go. Rated for up to 300 gallons. No pics at the moment as it's back in it's original box. Fairly certain this is the exact model...

$300 (no trades unfortunately)

I have been looking at 300 gallon tanks all night. Now I just need the money.... so save this for a few years until I am able to get enough cash for a 300g tank. Always wanted one and this would be an awesome skimmer for it ;)

Awesome skimmer. Would be about right on my upcoming heavy stoked 120. Hmm. Payments?

You say the pump is almost new, same for the skimmer itself? Or approximately what's it's age of use?

Probably overkill for a 90 or 120g, right? I just read it's recommended for 150g minimum, to run efficiently...

Haha...I can't wait to see what you do with the 120!! :) It would work AWESOME on a 120. It did phenomenal on a 180 fairly heavily stocked. I wish I could take payments. :( I put out a ton of cash on equipment lately so I just need to make some of it back up. I wanted to keep this but gotta do what I gotta do. ;)

Yeah, probably would be...but not if you were stocked heavy. Either way, it would keep the water column nice and clean. ;)

Cool, thx for the info by PM. I'll do some more research. Overkill isn't my problem, it's whether too big might actually not work good (go flat?) like I've read on a couple RC threads. Need to read more... :)

No worries...I have a huge skimmer over-rated for my volume. I thought I was only going to run it every other day or some other type of timed schedule instead of 24/7. Turns out, it still needs to run 24/7. ;)

Right on, I'm sure it's fine. I was just curious after stuff like FutureDoc's Posts #4 & #11 in this thread: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f218/can-a-skimmer-be-too-big-155162.html, and a couple others. Side-note, I love that you can get that auto neck-cleaner device for it, pretty clever.

I may be interested in this. is this the sss version where the pumps inside the unit? just want to make sure because the link shows it outside of the skimmer body. if you have some pics that would be awesome. thanks !

It is not the sss model...the pump is outside the body.

Thanks for the bump Praveen! So, after reading that thread you linked, and many others...over-skimming doesn't appear to be an issue. To me it seems that over-skimming would be more desired than having to find out you bio-loaded out your tank and now need a bigger one! ;) I found it interesting in that thread that he mentioned studies have found that protein skimmers only pull out up to 30% of the Total Organic Carbon (TOC). I guess that means over-skimming really won't hurt anything. Hmmmm.....
