Sand

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread, setup a 65 a few weeks ago and has a dsb. About 4".
I have halides and am not sure if that's why the sand is doing this. The top 1"-2" is starting to "brown out". See pic below. Is this bad or should I leave it alone?
