Many of heard me talk about my plans for a bigger tank in my basement and while I am still a good long way off of actually putting in the tank, I have started collecting items for and working on the design. So I decided I would start a build thread ad there are many questions to be answered about this tank, and I would value the input of this great community as I move forward with this tank. That being said I am in no rush and believe this tank build likely going to take a few years yet for me to complete.
Tank room - So when I bought my house, the basement had this "room" in the basement that was filled pretty much to the ceiling with the construction dirt from when this house was built, which was 1905. It had half brick walls and a make shift scrap wood wall and door enclosing the space. After we moved in I started digging out the basement 1 5g bucket at a time. Took me over 6 months of doing 5-10 5g buckets everyday to clear out the dirt enough to have someone come in a lay concrete in the room.
Once the room was dug out I brought in some concrete guys and had them put in a floor and reinforce the foundation. I also put in some electrical to the room, although this still needs to be completed. After the room was concreted in we turned it in to our studio/office, but a while ago my wife decided that she couldn't work in the dark basement so she moved her office upstairs. Needless to say the room instantly became the man cave/ fish room.
The basement isnt fully done though. I need to add in some general lighting to the room, and I also need to re-tuck all the brick in the room. All the grout on the brick is over 100 years old and is crumbling apart. Before I put any tank down here I have to get the brick done as I cant do that one with the tank down here as it is very messy to do.
Once these two things are done I can start on a bigger better water mixing station under the stairs with a untility sink, 2 salt mixing tanks and an ro tank, all plumbed to go to the new tank once installed.
A few pics of the basement construction.
This was where I stopped digging and the concrete guys brought in jackhammers to clear out the rest and prep for concrete.
