Depends on the par readings. Crappy eBay led u might as well submerge. But good LEDs can be set anywhere from 5" to 15" above the tank

Can't stop laughing.. Is it their 6 light fixture? If its the one I looked up, your gonna want it fairly close to the water. I made a diy with 6 Cree lights on a heatsink, running about 18w, and have it 3in off the water. That tank is about 9 inches deep.
