Urgent: Can I use plumbers tape to connect my pump?

#1
I just got a new pump, and I need to get it running. It's a LifeGuard QuietOne 2200, I'm using it externally, and I need to use the adapters they included, they only included one O ring to seal it, so I'm wondering if I can use plumbers tape? Is it going to cause any water problems?

Teflon tape is fine to use on threads if needed.

IME if a fitting is designed to use an o-ring with non-tapered threads, using tape will not seal it. Our systems are pretty low pressure though so it could work anyway. If the tape doesn't seal McGuckin's carries a variety of o-rings for pretty cheap.

I have always used Teflon tape as others have mentioned before. However, on this topic, what can't be used? Presumably paste, what else?
