Sick to my stomach...

My brother alerted me to a sound coming from the aquarium at about 3:00a.m. My bean-animal setup was gurgling, which is usually an alert that something is wrong. So after problem solving for a bit, we ended up turning the ball valve on the drain full open and a clog took a ride to the basement.

Went down to check what was clogging the drain....one of my snowflake clowns. I couldn't be more ****ed and don't have the heart to tell my better half. The two snowflakes were sentimental to her and the one fish purchase we made on impulse because she had her heart set on it.

I guess the odds were greater than I thought that a fish could find itself making a basket in my island overflow to take the ride. I figured with a canopy I wouldn't have this problem. Just venting at 4:30a.m....

OH...the ONLY good news to this was my bean-animal proved it's weight in gold tonight. Should that have been a setup without the open channel (which was doing all the work when we got to the tank), I would've had a flood somewhere.

ALSO, to any of those clown fish experts out there...how can I go about trying to pair another snowflake with the one that's left? Is it workable, or am I going to be risking fights to the death? Do I need to pull out my snowflake to intro to another in a QT tank?? Just curious on how I can try and undo this night. :(

Try and find a snowflake that is smaller than the one you already have. It's not hard to pair them up as long as they haven't both become females.
It takes a little while (probably 8 months to a year) for an ocellaris to become a female. I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I wish I had a snowflake to spare......I have some baby black ice snowflakes going but I have no clue what they'll look like yet and it would be at least a couple months
before I could even tell what they'll look like.

That really sucks man sry to hear. You could always sell the single and get another pair. I know that's not ideal but could save you the year or less time and possible fighting. My pr won't even go near each other anymore.

Thanks for the support everyone, just bummed about it. I saw a single one at Aquatic Art on Saturday and the wheels started turning like I should try and sneak it by my lady. Not a good idea, funny thought though...like she's a little girl or something. ;)

Thanks for the input! I don't know if they had already sexed yet or not. They had never mated with eggs, that I know of at least. The one that died was the larger, so if they had sexed I guess it would've been female obviously. With that in mind, would I get one larger than mine, or still stick with what you said and wait the 8 months to see what happens?

If you get one from Cris, then I'd get him as soon as possible.....I'd still try to get one that's smaller than the fish you have now. If you can't find one, I MAY have one that you like in a couple months. I can't guarantee anything because it's a crap shoot on what their markings look like.
