IMO LEDs are over rated and the technology still needs some improvement. If this is for a small system the 1w ones may work but if your tank is more than 20 inches deep better go with 3w. I tried the LEDs for awhile and was not that impressed with growth. Many people are on this led craze right now but I have switched back to T-5 and couldn't be happier.
Theres some hit or miss on spectrum and such. I think for some people it's other things affecting their success. That there are people out there with good LED tanks is without a doubt. I think some make the choice based more on the heat/long term cost rather than which grows 15% faster.
I wish I had the unlimited funds to play around with LED vs halide vs t5 on my own and maybe find good mixes of like 70% one thing, supplement with another.

I know mrsaltweater on youtube did this. There was a huge tank, All the same corals on each side. One had MH, while the others ran LEDs. The biggest difference was SPS, as far as anything else, couldn't tell a difference. I run LEDs and have had success. IDK, guess it's personal preference IMO.

i went from a 400w metal halide to LED and couldnt be happier. less power, less swing in PH in the day/night times and less heat issues. with that said, like Aztec said, the color did change, but for me my growth has spiked with the LED. Halides were good and i had t5HO prior to the halide... IMO people r dumb with LEDs and without a dimmer you're asking for issues. switching from t5 or halide to LED needs a dimmer, its a different spectrum and light penetration. Put the LED on low, feed corals more often and get them used to the light, then increase it over a 1-2 week period and viola. Thats what i did and sps, lps and softies all loved it and stay open from 2 minutes after the led turn on until 5 minutes after the led goes off... havent seen brighter colors and faster growth under any other fixture IMO
