well i finished up today all i have to do is skin in with some oak plywood, just have to decide on a color of stain.



and then i painted it some exterior grade paint to seal everything form water




i caulked all the seams to give it a sealed effect

It's just personal opinion. I'm not a fan of oak. I don't like the heavy grain. I think it also looks dated. I like cherry but its expensive. Alder is a poor mans cherry and thats what I used. Here's a pic of mine. I got my plywood from Austin Hardwoods in Denver.

you can probably find some on craigslist ...but imo alder only looks better than oak with a lighter color stain ...if your going darker then oak would look good ...i think alder is just the newest fad which equals not dated because oak is dated ...lol

I don't have any doors on mine. I should of added that clear alder is the poor mans cherry. The latest fad that dv3 is referring to is knotty alder. I don't mind knotty alder either though. I used clear alder to get the look I wanted. Dark or light stain is irrelevant in my opinion. You can't hide oak. Not a bad thing if you like it.
