main reason i never offer them.

i dont like selling animals that are doomed from the time of collection.

it would be nice if they would leave them in the ocean

Mine is doing great. My bet is the copperband pushed it over the edge. On other notes, Get an arrow crab or 2 for those bristle worms.

Ya won't argue the cb had may have pushed it over e edge! But the track record for these guys says it all!! I'm not worried about the worms there only doing there job!!

Clams and copperbands

Dude, does suck balls. These clams have a mixed record as soon as you do some research. Mine looks great still. I hope the trend continues and I have long term health. Maxima clams are more difficult to keep than other species to begin with. IMHO

I have had a few copperbands in with clams. It was likely looking for a free meal, just like the bristle worms.

Tahitians can do OK with some pretty big caveats. By OK, I mean 50-66% success IMO/IME. I got 2 out of 3 Dr Mac clams to live more than a year before I moved. I am 2 for 2 since about Christmastime on the ones in my tank. They need super intense light at the wholesaler (or sunlight) and the LFS - they don't get these most of the time. Most need FW dipped and assumed that they have PM disease - a healthy clam will survive this no problem and it is easy to do. They also need some serious MH lighting - I don't want to get into a whole debate here, this is just my opinion and experience alone, but I think that you will struggle with just about any other kind and I won't buy a Max of Croc under LED at a fish store. They also need a LOT of DOC, so I don't skim, carbon or GFO anymore on my SPS tank, I let the clams filter the water - they are mostly in clean coral systems at the LFS or wholesaler. When they start to grow, they can REALLY, REALLY use up the calcium and alk, so I use a Calcium Reactor - 2 part of kalk cannot keep up if they start to take off. Those of you who have been by have seen my tahitians - not the best patterns, but they are alive and still pretty cool. I need about another month and I will feel safer - they both are starting to put on new scutes, so that is a good sign. In another 2 months, I will cut off the rock rubble that they are on and mount them in the tank for good.

Not starting a debate or argument... but i run a skimmer and LEDs only over my tank and my clams have never shown signs of stress or problems. I got them from 2 vendors at Reefstock whom had the clams under LED at their store and at the show, and have been under only LED since i got them home.

Just speaking as a devils advocate... can be done with skimmer and LED, just a matter of what your clams are acclimated, accommodated, and are accustomed to IMO.

I am just talking about tahitian maximas and long term success > 6 months. These are just my experiences and observations with these particular clams only. If your wild tahitians are putting on new growth and thriving in the fall, I would love to come and check them out... seriously, I am enthusiast.

Here are some really bad pictures of one of mine that I just took. It got mad when I put the acrylic look down thing in there and closed up a bunch. 5 months. You can see some of the new shell in a few places. The are some baby maxes in front of it - gold/purple and green/purple. They are like 1.25 inches to give the Tahitian some scale - the babies are likely from Tonga or Ponpae, but I don't know... they are cultured and have new scutes too since Reefstock.
