So, studying to up size my tank. Working through live rock. Is it advisable to get new rock (kind of rock TBA but, will be live) and soak rock in tank water (from water changes) to culture the microbiome in current tank to ease transition into new tank? Hopefully I've described this adequately. Any thoughts or experience in this endeavor is appreciated. Thanks in advance reefing friends!

That’s a good plan, just takes time but worth it. Also, seed it with some sand or rock from your current tank. The hydrospace microbial products are great too!

The water itself doesn't carry all that much of the microbiome, I would add in at least a few small pieces of established rock and maybe even a cup of sand if possible. As Mike mentioned hydrospace products, like their PNS Deep Cycle, can help too. (Kenneth, the owner of Hydrospace will be at the show in a few weeks, if you have questions ;) )

That plus the water will help it establish better. Give it as long as possible too. The longer you can soak it and let it establish the better off you will be. I'd go for between 2-6 months of soaking that way and that should let you bypass most of the cycling and ugly phases of starting up a tank
