So have 5 tangs in 180 for a few yrs now and just caught the purple from my 90 and want to add the purple to the 180. What are the chances all will go smooth? Have a yellow naso yellow eye kole and sailfin. Thanks I don't want to get rid of the purple but don't want him to get beat up either.

truthfully i would trade out the yellow and salfin and put them in the 90 and put your purple in the 180 and maybe get one more tang like a powder blue or something for the 180

Are they well fed and otherwise have their needs met? If so, then it will be smooth. Tangs are like the idiots sharing the house at Jersey Shore or Big Brother... feed them well, meet their needs and give them a good life and they will be well-behaved habitants... improperly stimulate them and under-meet their needs and they will act like azzes.

Generally, if you are feeding all of them well enough that they are fat and growing, then after a quick break-in period (hour or two.. day at most), they should all get along.

I have kept all of these tangs together with no issues... however, this was in a FO tank where I could feed them correctly. Tangs in reefs can be tricky since most owners won't want to put that much food into their tanks.

Go for it. Purples tend to be the more aggressive of the zebra... You have a lot of rock and you feed well. Maybe do a lights out or only the blue for the day. Just to keep things mellow.

If it gets the crap kicked out of it, then it will need to QT for a while. I might suggest that you have a QT ready just in case. I would wait a few months for the transfer if you don't have a QT yet, or have a phone-a-friend QT ready.

Losing long-time fish is WAY worse than new ones IMO.

You need one of those fish traps that are large enough for the incoming fish so that they can sit in the new tank with the other fish. This has been proven to work in the past. All the old fish get to see the new guy/gal and yet not be able to pester them to death. You can create them out of regular egg crate to keep it cheap. It has really worked in the for me.

This sounds like a good idea, although I don't have one or enough eggcrate on hand. Maybe tomorrow I'll go to be and buy some. Mean while the tang is ****ed in the lil bow front.

Not much else I can say about the tangs getting along that hasn't already been said, but as far as catching fish goes, I am 95% sold on the feeding-them-in-the-net-you-want-to-catch-them-with trick.
I caught multiple fish in one day of feeding mine frozen cubes in the net. Just bend the handle so it hangs in the tank sort of vertically and put food in it. By lunch time two of my tangs and one of my angels had completely forgotten the horrors that net represented.
This wouldn't work for small, low-lying fish but big, free-roaming fish were suckers.
