I'm looking for a wavemaker/wave generator/wave box (not sure the exact name of what I am hunting for) that works by pulling in and pushing out water from a container in a tank.
I'm trying to find one for my existing 75 gallon tank.
What you described is a wave box - Tunze makes these, or you can make your own out of an old Tunze pump (6100 for $100) and a wave controller ($75 or make your own) and some acrylic. The wave that they make is a little bit different than what you can do with a power head, but the power head might be fine for what you are wanting. I like the waves that a real wave box makes a LOT better than the ones from a powerhead, but everybody has different opinions on this. When gathering opinions, be sure and ask/figure-out what the person was using to generate the wave.
That's a good idea. I'm looking up a little more about if the wp25 vs a box. We're really trying to get the same effect as the display tank at the front of elite reef.
The wave at Elite is a multiple wave - dual IIRC. The powerheads can do this. I have never seen one do the 6 or 8 foot single wave with the 4-5 second back and forth, but perhaps they can - I would like to know the settings for a 7096 if somebody knows how. The wave program on my Tunzes or on a MP40 are not the same. They can all do a dual, triple, etc. wave.
