I have a totally sweet blasto and I lost a head today and noticed bristle worms almost everywhere. Do they attach LPS? Help. Don't want to loose this coral!!!

I have a peppermint shrimp, will they co-exist? Also I have a lot of tiny brittle worms, will a coral banded eat those? However at the end of the day I like the coral...

coral bandeds need to be the last shrimp added, any previous for the most part are safe, any afterwards the coral banded will kill. u could do an arrow crab depending on the tank size as well

Some people have had success with a 6 lined wrasse (depending on the size of your system).

Careful with the arrow crabs, depending on what else you have, they may get a little greedy and chew on your corals.

arrow crabs IMO are the best bristle worm eaters... my 6 line would only touch the small ones.. my arrow crab ate every size...i tried the orchid dotty but they only ate the small ones as well... i have never tried a coral banded as i had other species that would conflict.

Coral banded shrimp, ir better yet a pair. Mine are not overly aggressive to ny fish, oretty much keep to the cave during the day and come out ti scavenge at night. Best part is no bristle worms. I do direct feed the CBS constantly as I know they have a tendency to go after other tank engabitants.

Mass bristle worms also usually means overfeeding. They'll populate according to feeding. (Since I cut back months ago, my numbers are reduced. I'm sad though as I do enjoy them for being detrivores.)

As far as your coral. Could have just as easily had a sick/dying coral from bad water/fish nips that the bristle worms jump on.

The worms are just getting a free meal... it is highly unlikely that they had anything to do with the coral losing a head. Don't worry about them.

bristleworms don't eat coral, they eat things that have died so I would wager that the blasto was on its way out before those worms did anything. some people love them, some people hate them.

Bristle worm problems

I have lots of them in all different sizes, they eat all the crap that gets stuck under the rocks. Only real complaint is that now anytime I reach my hand in the tank I wear gloves to avoid the tiny fiberglass like stingers they have.

I Agree. I also have a coral banded shrimp, and not really seen any reduction in my bristle worm population..

Other than the bristles i had no idea they could make a pest of themselves. The kids think the scary five incher we got on a rock recently is the coolest thing in the tank and do inspections for him.
