Throwing in the towel

I've about had it with my reef tank! After this summer of extreme heat temp and fighting huge ph swings have caused devastating losses. I have lost ALL my acans and two nice acros about $650 worth. I have been in this hobby since '92 and have never seen anything like this! I am at my wits end and about to give up!

Don't give up just yet. I lost all but one of my acans this summer and about 5 chalice's too. It sucks!! I was just cleaning up the coral grave yard tonight.

Just keep at it!!

Yeah, I am bagging the frag tank as I am sick of all the time it takes.

I took mine down for the summer, after having a ton of old tank issues and the extreme battle with the heat last year, I will be ready for a fresh start in september.
Stick with it, we all get discouraged at times.

Hang in the Martin, your like me, I got my first saltwater tank back in 86-87 and I wouldn't know what to do with that empty space in my house. Everyone goes through ups and downs. I have some frags here if you like. Their not crazy expensive ones , but your welcome to them.

I almost gave up after losing 95% of my stuff when I moved. Some of my sps were many years old and the size of a basketball. My wife convinced me to keep with it and I'm glad I did.

Torn my tank down 2x now but couldnt stay away. This 3x around I've been fighting major algae issues and almost through in the towel as well....but things are turning around and my stuff looks good again. Hang in there good buddy....while the hobby can be maddening and expensive....its also rewarding. Tough it out bro!

I have lost all of my Birdsnest/Stylo over the summer. 2 were very large Softball size colony's. No idea why, tank temp hasn't fluctuated. PH has been lower than I want but stable. All my other SPS are fine though, so I have no idea. The only thing I can think of us too much light.

Once I got Fans to blow over the LED's I started to ramp them up 1% per day, after about a month I noticed my Stylo and Birdsnest were starting to bleach so I stopped ramping them up. The stylo looked bad, but it started to get new growth with its color back. the birdsnest looked fine. Stylo died out first, than a few weeks later the birdsnest died. Now another frag of birdsnest died in the frag tank.

I want to quit about half of the time, but its just too nice having the tank. I treated my tank with every reefsafe medication possible for an acro parasite that i couldn't find. When I moved two months after changing my ro/di filters and my di was spent, I realized my membrane was shot(65ppm out of the membrane). Fixed that and everything that survived the move is coming around. TDS was 0 in water even with the shot membrane, but that about killed me. I was ****ed.

I did change to a bare bottom/bare filter setup. Cheato, biopellets, big skimmer and water volume. Much easier to clean

I officially hate summer and reef tanks! Well at least this summer! I am do ****ed that I have lost all my prized acans.
