That is not true, starfish can live if you take them out of water. Some species of stars can live 5 days out of water, they would not be able to survive in tidal pools if that were true. Hundreds of years ago fishermen who caught starfish would chop them up in anger, then throw them back into the water, all the while not realizing that each piece would grow an entire new starfish.
Ummmm.....I believe everything that I said is true.
Starfish can live if THEY move out of the water themselves. It gives them time to close off their vascular system.
If they are REMOVED manually from the water, it will PROBABLY result in their death.

Linkias are not the most robust species of starfish either.

Of course you believe it to be true, you said it. Interesting... BUT I'm pretty sure starfish are hardy and can tolerate air..if you find them on the beach and pick them up they are fine..not to mention what about..I dunno EVERY SINGLE aquarium/zoo that has a "touch tank". What is the #1 thing they have in there EVERY time..starfish. I would think that if they were really that sensitive and couldn't be out of water they wouldn't have random people putting their dirty hands all over them and taking them out of the water 10,000 times A DAY.http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS8qSeQBjGNBq_tkMLWZqfoDaOf8eeWjx-LjGOiiTNc8Ya3judYhwhttp://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTlFbKMR_h0Kc8NXy8DLA-vOf0yNBvjMh9bnZ9_cswxZko2I1X4Iq9MBrulhttp://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:...UH8MSabcoxfQChvvLml48S0k7aGKSlhrlAyaLAXCcOiGwhttp://www.google.com/imgres?q=touc...=679&ei=IkBsTtPfKJGctwfKrqieDQ&zoom=1&chk=sbghttp://www.google.com/imgres?q=touc...=383&ei=IkBsTtPfKJGctwfKrqieDQ&zoom=1&chk=sbg

I guess I'm not the only one that thinks starfish shouldn't be exposed to air.

http://www.aquacon.com/starfish.html
A lot of the entries state this:
Starfish must never receive exposure to air during acclimation.

So, if you'd like to remain in your sarcastic tone...go for it. I'm just putting out information. If you don't agree with it....you don't agree with it.
I think I'll stick to being safe and let the other members read for themselves instead of taking only your opinion.

I have never seen a linkia starfish in any of those, or in any if the links you posted.

I think what bothers me most about this show is the stunningly bad example they set for people who want to get in the hobby but have no knowledge behind the hobby and think that they can just dump any old fish right into a tank and expect it to be just fine.

Alright, I'm going to bow out of this argument. I was not talking about the linckia specifically, but was talking about a blanket statement that was made about starfish in general (or at least that's what I thought). I have not kept linckia because of their extreme sensitivity and the level of care required. You may be right about that and I agree that the ATM guys are idiots.
I really don't want to make enemies here but could use some more friends.
Gale, if you aren't too ****ed to teach me a little something I do have some clown questions you may be able to answer for me. PM me if you care to help out.
Thanks all!

I don't think anyone is going to make enemies. I didn't like the LOL comment(not from you). I was merely trying to point out with the starfish information that a blanket statement about them doesn't cover them. Start a thread about your clown questions. I am sure Gale and others will reply.

So I'm currently watching this show and i know that they know what they are doing but I looks to me that the introduce everything too quickly. They just put in about 50 corals as well as fish in the same day, that to me sends up a flag. Plus their refuge you can tell is brand new. No algae, or growth in the sand it is pure white. They can build one heck of a tank, but my concerns are if they can stock it.

Who cares if they screw up a piece of acrylic. It's the way they treat the animals and stock the tanks that is the issue.
