Attaching LR to acrylic sheet

I've started a new 2-gallon(!) build and my intended live rock configuration is an "inverted pyramid" of a single 2lb piece of rock. For stability, I was thinking of cutting a piece of acrylic sheet so that it just fits the bottom of the tank and then attaching the LR to the acrylic with 2-part epoxy. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of attachment? Success? Did you do anything to the acrylic to help the epoxy bond better (rough-up the surface, drill holes in the sheet, etc)?

I really want to make sure I get this right the first time...

thanks,
Jared

Best bet is to drill the base and rock, and then use an acrylic rod. Epoxy/acrylic glue the rod into the base section. Set the rock either on the rod drilled 90% through the rock, or go 100% through the rock and use a small cap on the end that will disappear once it gets overgrown with algae.

That is just a much stronger support than a single point of epoxy on the tip of the rock where it touches the acrylic. With only that single point you will eventually hit the rock while working in the tank and pop the epoxy lose... causing the rock to tip against the glass, and maybe breaking/scratching the tank very badly.

Just my humble opinion, so take it for what it is worth.
