How big do my pumps need to be?

So last night the Reeflo Hammerhead running the 360 in my classroom sprang a leak. To keep the tank running I put a spare Snapper I had for this reason on and it seemed to be doing a great job. Is the Hammerhead too big? Will it help if I slow down the contact time in the sump?

Currently I am running a Reeflo Dart on the 180 in the library. Should I put the Snapper in the library and the Dart back on the 360? The Dart originally ran the 360 until I put the monster skimmer on there and it was more than enough.

I don't count it either. That's why I have so many power heads in the tank.

So with the Hammerhead I am at about 13. The Dart would turn over like 8. And the Snapper on the 180 would turn over like 7.

Hammerhead is too big IMHO. I'd go back to the dart.
