I was watching a friend of mine refill his dogs' automatic water dispenser. I'm sure most of you have probably seen them before. It's just a jug, flipped upside down, with the opening submerged in water. It keeps the water of that dish at the same level all the time and prevents the water in the jug above the dish from emptying onto the floor.
So it immediately made me wonder if this would work for an aquarium setup. It would be so easy, use no moving parts, and would keep the water at whatever level you set the opening to.
I built a little prototype for a 20L that I have using a 1 liter, plastic bottle. I drilled a hole in the cap and put a piece of 1/2"(?) plastic tubing in and sealed it. Then cut the tubing to where I want the water level to stay. I need to build a little mount for it so that it sits above the water line, but the fresh water stays up in the bottle.
I posted because I was wondering if anyone else has seen a setup like this or has any foresight into why this might not work.
Thanks!
