Questions about bulkheads?

#1
I got a 125 gallon tank, and unfortunately during the moving process the bulkhead broke. The hole I have is 1 1/4 inch, I'm not sure if that means I need a 1 1/4 inch bulkhead?
Also it appeared to be threaded, so if I were to connect it to pvc (I had to saw off the plumbing to get it off the stand) I would need threaded, right?

I definitely do not understand advanced plumbing haha

If you are planning to plum in rigid PVC pipe then they make bulkheads that are slip x slip connections like this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/bulkhead-abs-slip-x-slip-1-7c63a554c36ea63c77723a472b7ca20f.html

Notice that the threads are still present on the dry side of the bulkhead, that is so you can tighten the nut that holds the bulkhead tight against the glass. You don't want to ever try to thread a piece of PVC to those outside threads. When people are talking about threaded bulkheads, you would be able to feel the threads inside the bulkhead.

If you look at the pictures of bulkheads in that link above you will find a diagram with an "A" measurement, a "B" measurement, and a "C" measurement, I believe that "C" measurement is referring to the diameter of the physical hole in the glass. You want to be pretty precise with your measurements because your 1.25 inch measurement puts you between a 1/2 inch bulkhead and a 3/4 inch bulkhead, a 3/4 inch bulkhead has a diameter of 1.33 inches.

There are also thread x thread bulkheads, thread x slip bulkheads, slip x thread, and I believe there are bulkheads with male barbed fittings so one could connect flexible tubing.

Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P64AhetQf2c It's a plumbing video from Vivid Aquariums, very good info on aquarium plumbing!

Was this a custom drilled tank/hole? A 1.25" hole is the required hole size for a .5" bulkhead which as far as I know would not be an "A" typical or standard hole size for neither an overflow or return line hole on a 125 gallon Reef Ready tank.

Are you sure that the hole is 1.25" ??????

* Below is taken from our sponsors website based on ABS bulkheads (standard not sch 80). See line in bold and red font for hole size in accordance with bulkheads sizes.

That video really explained a lot! I'm not sure if it was a custom job. I got the tank from Gabe (cherub) so I guess I could ask him. I still have the bulkhead and it's hard to say what size I need since I went to elite reef and when you measure the inner diameter of the bulkhead, it also says 1.25, and that's what I got when I measured the hole as well. The hole is facing away currently so it's hard to get to, I have a picture of the plumbing he had originally if that helps?

It's a hard angle sorry! So if you have any adjustments you would make Id appreciate it. Sadly I had to saw off the plumbing. This tank was so much quieter than mine
