After much fanfare it's time to unveil my new tank and build thread. Lot's of factors went in to the why, but the basics are:
  • New job=less time for tank maintenance (so looking for a little easier setup)
  • New solar panels = want to try to decrease energy consumption
  • new basement = loss of old fish room
  • consolidation
So I settled on a PNP system from SC Aquaariums. I foolishly ordered it a week before Christmas (Dec. 16th, 2020), thinking it could be my Christmas present. I arrived on February 10, 2021....almost 2 months after I ordered it. SC Aquariums built all new stands for 21, so this was one of their new styles. It's solid wood, I wanted a rustic style of wood, but my wife wanted a cleaner look. In the end she won, and I'm happy with it too. Looks really nice and well built.

Tank is 120g, 4ft x 2ft x 2ft. And I am going to replace all of my lighting and start fresh with the Reef Breeders Photon 48 fixture. Again, this is one of the concessions I made in an attempt to save some energy. When my 3x250w metal halides were on as well as 4x80w T5's I was running about 1000w. The RB maxes out at 240w, so there has to be some consumption savings there. Same with the return pump, my current setup with the Reeflo Hammerhead/barracuda has an average wattage of 237/337W....the Atman 2500 return pump included with my new setup is 45w I believe.

Along lines of ease of maintenance I might shift away from SPS. Honestly, I haven't had tremendous success with it. So I'm going to transfer what I have and see what happens. I'm leaning more towards nems, LPS, and zoas. I'll transfer the clam and the skull with the Raja Rampage eye. I am leaning towards a clown fish harem tank, so I probably won't transfer any of my existing fish. This does bum me out a little, because some of them have been with me for over 10 years now.

More later, but that's the start!

Love the title.

Are you going to hang the light?

Lots of rock or minimalist style?
No hanging light, still have the 2 story ceiling issue. And I'm going to move that rock I have...well most of it. There are a couple of pieces that have some paly's I don't want to transfer.

Like the looks of the new tank! I’m done with Reeflo too. Sick of seals going out and the noise!

So will the ro run constant and keep the tank full? I run something similar just w a water vat and gravity fed to sump also w float valve.

So the tank is running? Do you have anything in it for the cycle... what’s the plan man. How’s the light?
