I moved my 75 gal reef tank to another room in the house and had about 2/3 die off; fish and corals. I was bummed – So what did I do. – Swear off this crazy hobby? Tear my tank down?
Nope…..I doubled down and bought another bigger tank. With Fanta-Sea going out of business in my area I snatched up a 170 cube setup, at liquidation prices and got a few livestock to boot! Stand, canopy, Lights, sump, skimmer etc. Yep is my first acrylic tank and yep I carved a few scratches in it alreay, but we can address that later. Also picked up a 200 gal RO unit. It’s been a good week. Now just need to keep Todd – my new 30+ inch yellow head moray fed well so my new foxface and grouper don’t become a snack! I will need some overflow help sometime soon too.

Check it out…

Here is is before the move

Lights

Sump

Todd and Foxface playing tag..

Thanks - The Eel, Foxface and Grouper came with the tank. I am feeding the Eel and Grouper, Silversides Foxface gets that and pellets right now. I want to put a few corals in the tank to spice up the look - not sure where I an going with this tank. I would like to get a Puffer too. Any guidence would be great for the group. I guess it will be hit and miss to fish that can coexsist with the eel.

Sinularia, mushrooms, leathers, xenia and the like are your best bets. Nothing is guaranteed with a puffer.

Just curious but how do you manage to kill off 2/3rds of your tank by only moving it inside your house? I just moved an hour away and have lost nothing. Didn't use bubblers or heaters until I got to the new place.

Sweet new tank though! I like it.

Edit: haha I kind of skipped over the title. What caused your ammonia spike?

I have no idea why I had the huge die off. The move was complete within an hour. All I can think is there was excess die off on the live rocks that caused the problem. I was amazed. Oh well - just allows for new stuff.

Do you know if Fanta-Sea is still open? or are they completely done and closed the doors?

He has pretty much cleaned out the store. I know he has several 90 gal full setups and some larger tanks. The phone number on their facebook page goes to Jeff the owner. You can call or text him. He has a lot of stuff he has moved out to his home or a storage locker. https://www.facebook.com/FantaSeaColorado

Thanks! The tank itself is 36 x 36 by 30 tall.

The base is 40 inches high and total with the canopy is 87 inches.

That's Johnathan Reece's (Jreeceaspen) tank. He had it there on consignment. I knew I recognized it! Thats a really nice setup for sure. It was such a shame it never saw water while he had it. Its great to see it up and running.

Ok, I can't figure out who is playing me? That is my tank! Jeff had it on consignment for me and I just talked to him and he said it wouldn't fit in your basement (true or false?). Do you have the cube and if so did you pay Jeff for it? I need the honest truth so I can take action with Jeff. Please advise if this tank has been purchased and it's at your house. If so, can you please PM. Thanks.

jreeceaspen and I have messaged back and forth and looks like everything is working out properly. I am glad I posted it and he got a chance to see it and we could address it ASAP. That's one for the club and its members - great team work! Kudos to ThunderTwonk for reading my post and recognizing the tank.
