Cheato won't stop decaying

#1
Halimeda taking off, currently looks like a dense forest in my 10gal refuge and 5gal refuge section in my sump. I have a seperate 5gal section for chaeto growth. Used to have 5 softball size chunks in there and now only about 1/4 of it is left and it is visably decaying. Any thoughts on why only the halimeda algae is growing but not the chaeto? Could it be the halimeda algae is doing so well that it is taking all the nurtients out of the water and the chaeto is starving? Thanks!

BINGO!

You can switch to Halimeda from cheato, since it's working better at nutrient extraction. That has it's own challenges though.

Do you want to stop the Halimeda from growing??

Nah, I love the way halimeda looks. Much more of a decorator algae then chaeto. Just wasnt sure if something was afoot with my system, since chaeto usually groes like a wildfire :)
