So in my continued planning stage, I'm looking for opinions on the Tunze wavemakers (I like them but how safe are they for keeping an anemone) and how do they compare (effectiveness) with either a Carlson and Borneman diy device? Looking for any opinions/experience with any of these. I like what I've seen on the web for the tunze but like the price of the DIY Carlson/Borneman better.
Can you tell us a little more about the tank? Dimensions, other means of flow etc.
Seems to me that wave boxes have their place in some tanks but no so much in others. In terms of nem safety I think you are likely to be fine if they are established and not moving around. That said there is always the possibility one might get into the pump housing which wouldn't be pretty.
Personally I think DIY wave box based on the Tunze design is a great way to go to if you like to tinker. A Carlson surge device just seems way to cumbersome to me, as to whether or not you would have any added benefit from a Carlson I could not say as iv never used one. I cant image its better than a Tunze wavebox however. Same goes for the Borneman.
In the case of making your own Tunze knockoff, the Jaebo would probably be a good option because they are so cheap in case you dont like it. I'm sure you'd have no problem selling that Jaebo here should that be the case.
Of course some may not like this link but you could use it as a baseline to decide if you want to attempt a DIY.
