My girlfriend and I were at the Ikea store a few days ago and they had a 10" window squeegee for $2. Its just a hollow plastic handle that looks like it mounts onto a broom handle(you could glue pvc to it to make a longer handle if you need) and then its a silicone squeegee mounted to the plastic with aluminum, so no rust. I gave it a whirl in my tank when i got home and it took everything right off the glass except for a small spot of coraline algae.
How to get rid of this?

The bottom or sand line of all acrylic tanks pose a scratch risk for sure. I use an aquablade from continuum aquatics with the blue plastic blade to get the sand line. It takes some practice to get the right angle, pressure and to not let any sand get between the acrylic and blade.
We also use a Dobie pad on the blade for tight spots, curved corners etc.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for their input in getting to the solution to my problem. Using a hard plastic card is about the best way to scrape hard to remove algae and they would bend fairly easy. I needed something a little more ridged and to my surprise I found these plastic razor blades online. They come with a holder that the blade snaps into place and with an extra 3/4 tube, I was able to make a handle long enough to reach the bottom and give me the angle I needed. So for a little over 10 dollars I was able to make this and have over 20 replacement blades.
