LEDs to grow algae

What color and wattage LEDs would be ideal for growing algae? I have a DIY turf scrubber in mind.

I think red is the best color to grow algae but I could be wrong

I have a par38 over my fuge with 10 red and 5 blue LEDs...it grows macros extremely well. I used to use it over my FW tank as a supplemental light for my emersed plants; they grew like weeds.

Algae uses red and blue spectrums. I would do 2x 3 watt red, 1x 3watt blue, and 1x 3 watt royal blue.

Might be a dumb question: Is it possible to run LEDs, underwater?

Any daylight bulb will grow algae really well with lots of red, yellow and green spectrum.

They do make LED strips that are submersible. But most are only designed to be accent lights and aren't very bright. I know that Hydor, Current and Marineland all have a few types available.

Ok, so if using a RapidLed bulb, it would need to be in a water-proof container of some type.
