ORP probe

My new controller is compatible with the ORP probe but I am not sure what its main use is for? Form what I have seen it is for checking oxygen levels? Do any of you use one and whats the scoop on them? I dont run any reactors or anything like that to need to monitor this correct?

I found this link but its not really saying what I am looking for... That is a short answer as to is it necessary to buy a $70 probe to watch orp?
