Planning a move - new build or relocate the cube?

There's a good chance that I'll be moving (locally) this summer. It wasn't really in the plans when I started the large cube last year, so now I'm trying to figure out if I should move the tank or just start a new build wherever I end up and just take some livestock with me.

I have an ADA 60-p (18 gallons) that is drilled and has most of the plumbing ready to go. I'm thinking about just setting up that tank with an oversized stand so that I can fit a larger sump underneath it...at least a 40 breeder. I figure I can set it up with live sand and pull the rock from my current sump to get the tank scaped before moving over some livestock...which would likely just be my pair of clowns and the growing nem collection.

The other option is just to move the large cube. With the closed loop, I'm thinking that there will be some plumbing that needs to be cut and/or redone...so it makes moving the tank and all the livestock in a day a bit more complicated. I'd rather not move anything into a large holding tank in the new place while the glue cures on the cube so that I can get everything back in there...but I suppose that's an option.

I guess the 3rd option would be to find another tank somewhere between the ADA and the current cube so that it's not such a big downsize, but I'm trying to avoid spending the extra cash. I think a 40-60 gal cube would do the trick if I can find one cheap enough.

Thoughts/votes? Any words of encouragement to convince me that I can move this large tank without having a crash? The 60p is really tempting me right now...it'd be nice to have that small tank stuffed with some nice nems...I just don't know if I want to go back to a total water volume of under 40 gallons.

My vote is for moving the 90g and just store the livestock in the 18g if you can till the plumbing is redone. That 90g cube is SICK!!!!

Thanks Chad...I think this might work out, just need to check out the tank. :)

You can move it, don't downsize - you'll regret it. Take it from me. For months i was kicking myself and had to re-buy everything when i realized i couldn't keep all the cool stuff i wanted and nems. Anything you lose you can replace by helpful members here. I am sure of it.

Move it! turn the closed loop off to reglue and let sit for a day then turn it on! I thought we plumbed it so it can come apart?

Lol...embarrassingly enough, I didn't even think about just shutting off the closed loop. The large intake is the only plumbing that looks like it'd need to be cut to move the tank...only because it would be awkward trying to move the tank off and on the stand with it in place. Also, one of the lower outputs has a little salt creep, so I figured I might as well address that. But yea...thanks for the tip! For peace of mind I could probably even remove the basket over the intake and cap it until it cures. Hmmm.

My only other concern with moving the tank was the actual logistics of moving everything. Besides the pita prospect of catching these fish...I might need a crane to move my largest pillar of rock lol.

Lol Chad. Maybe the 60p will eventually make an appearance.

Thank you both for offering to help with the move, if it happens I'll definitely let you know. :)

You know what part of town your moving to yet? You have allot of friends here im sure when the times times you'll have lots of options. i didnt even want to attempt moving my tank down one floor let lone to a new house.

I suppose if it were me I'd find some folks you trust to hold your live stock until you get the tank moved and it settles out again. Too many horror stories about moving tanks. On a side note I also vote for two tanks. :)

If all goes really really really well Ill have three systems running by then and would be more than happy to help.

Thanks Kris, I definitely appreciate it. I won't name names...but someone kinda wants to take my cube to Mexico ;) There's a chance that I'll be able to setup a new system and slowly move my livestock over, but if I do end up just moving the current tank, having someplace for my livestock to hang out would really smooth out the process.

I'm not sure where we'd be moving yet...but it'd be local and West of I-25. My current neighborhood, Lakewood, Littleton and Golden are all options; unfortunately our top picks don't really align so there's going to be some looking and compromising involved.

I'll try to find something on the ground floor to make things easier, haha.
