So I have some acros and one is growing, the other is slow and has its tentacles out all the time? Is it hungry? Lack of flow? Light is plenty with LEDs. Any ideas? My monties are doing great btw.

Welcome to the club. Some peole look for polyp extension and like it, others say it is due to the fact the corals are trying to feed. All of my sps have polyp extension. My blue one doesn't grow, my valida won't stop growing along with my red planet. My cool no name light green one is trying to grow. If the one that is not growing has a specific name try googling it and see where it is recommended to be placed in the tank. A lot of the big sites will do this ie vivid.

35 gallon, water can't be better, salinity is kept at 1.023, temp around 80, three heads on a wave maker for the circulation. I feed rods, coral frenzy, coral brite, restore, oyster eggs, and fuel.

SPS polyp extension is not really an indicator of hunger, more like healthy and happy. Some take a long time to get adjusted to your specific system, and there are different growth rates, but I would say the most likely cause is you, you are watching it. Turn your back, become interested in something else for a couple months and it will get jealous, it will grow to try and get your attention, but you must resist!! If you start watching again it will RTN, you must be coy, play the role, be hard to get, then your relationship will be stronger than ever.

We still talking about coral here? Those sound an awful lot like the same reasons I got a divorce...and about the polyp extention being hungry...well, guess you could call it that...

I agree with Aaron. SPS is finicky at best. Some of my SPS has phenomenal PE but hasn't grown any. Some SPS shows no PE but grows. I would say on average it takes SPS about 4-6 months (some shorter some longer) to settle in and start growing. I got a Jedi mind trick and seasons greetings from Aaron around Christmas time. The Jedi just started growing about 3 weeks ago and the seasons greetings is still the same size as when I got it. I also agree with your salinity being low.

Make sure to calibrate your refractometer before you do anything with the salinity. It could be off, I have firsthand experience with that problem.
