How many gallons are you looking to skim?

There are many, many better options out there than an Orca.

Aqua C EV 1000 is a decent skimmer. Probably middle to bottom of the downdraft/beckett that i have used. Better than almost any needle wheel, though, if you use the right pump with it. You will need a pressure rated Iwaki, Blueline or PanWorld pump - don't let anybody convince you to use a Dart or other pump of the like since they just won't perform. I probably have some that you can borrow if you want.

So have a g4 now and want to upgrade w out getting a divorce! Have a lead on aqua c 1000 for 225. I'm skimming about 225 gallons. Also waiting to hear about aqua medics new line.

That is a solid price. If you get it use the Iwaki 70 pressure or the Blueline 70.

Keep the G4 until you are SURE that you like the beckett. G4 is pretty solid needlewheel - going to be hard to get a better skimmer than that... there are better, but I wouldn't pay the extra to have them.

Yup. Run it in some diluted muratic for an hour. It might be too late for this one, but I do it 2-4 times a year and I can start to get 5+ years out of a Sedra. Works on mags too.

Which pump would you say is the quietest? I had an Iwaki 70 and thought it was way too loud especially compared to the dart that I'm running now.

Charlie, I have the ev400 and like it allot! It'll skim circles around a asm. Only thing I dont like is cleaning the reaction chamber although it reminds you of how well they skim. +1 with jda 123 drive that bad boy with a strong pump!
