Going to be moving in a month or so. We are buying a new house. Wife and I found a spot where we would like to place the tank, but it's on the 1st floor and there is not an ideal location for RODI unit and water mixing station. Laundry room is on second floor, but I don't want to carry water up and down the stairs. There is an unfinished basement which leads me to think of a basement sump and mixing station down there. Which then leads me to think that my wife will kill me if I drill holes for plumbing in the brand new floor!

The basement sump is the best ever in my opinion. It gives you a place to escape. Test,water change, and reduce skimmer odor from house. It's all ups and no downs. I vote do it.

I ran all of my plumbing through a floor vent that was conveniently located behind the tank. No floor damage and can be easily put back together in under 30 minutes. I just capped off the HVAC duct in the basement. Maybe one of those registers close to the tank?

Unfortunately, no nearby floor vent. Thanks for the idea though.

I’m running all the required plumbing and electrical through the wall behind the tank then through the floor inside the wall. If we ever move then it will require a little drywall repair. My sump is still going to be under the tank but the fresh and salt water will be downstairs. I have one 1-1/2” drain line to the sewer for water changes and skimate and two 3/8” lines for auto water changes and ato.

The only problem I see with basement sumps is having to pump all that water up. The volume of water I have to pump upstairs is so minimal in comparison.

Man it would be nice to have a basement sump, but I just don't have the heart to start tearing into a brand new house. Not to mention my wife would skin me alive. I like my current setup with a sump under the tank, but the main issue is that I don't have a spot for a rodi/mixing station on the main floor. Next best option would be garage, but there are a few steps. Not ideal. I'm also trying to brainstorm how I can move this tank with minimal disruption. More ideas are welcome.

well you wont like my approach :LOL:, I went through the wall in between studs, 5"x 5" hole. When/if we sell dry wall repair on the inside, siding repair on the out side.
the pipes run through an insulated tunnel into an insulated shed, maybe you could run yours to the garage? having sump/rodi/and everything away from the display tank is the best upgrade I have done in this hobby.
@Andrew_bram has a sawzall willing and waiting, we will be happy to take the blame, you had nothing to do with it! Its a fool proof plan hahaha

Ya, walls are easy to patch and fix, plus once the tank is in place, you wont see it anyway ;)

I put my RO above my refrigerator since it feeds into the water and ice maker. Then I have it run to my basement where the DI and water reservoirs are.

That’s a great out of the way place to put it, but shouldn’t you not be regularly drinking deionized water? Or am I misunderstanding what you are doing here?

Thanks for the ideas. I know plumbing through wall or floor is really not that big of a deal. Not sure if it's the solution I'm looking for though. I'll need to take a closer look at the house when we get moved in to see what options I have.

That’s only the RO part of it above the fridge. So we are drinking RO water but not DI. It doesn’t go through the DI until it goes to the water storage bins for the tank down in the basement.

This is what I did keep the drywall. Just gave to patch that whenever we move

The home we are relocating to is about 15 minute drive from current house. I'm thinking I'll need to setup a temporary tank at new house to receive transfer of livestock. That will allow time to breakdown the tank and equipment for transport. Anyone have a 50-75 gallon tank laying around that I could borrow?
