The answer 5sqrt3 means that the word "and" in the word problem means "multiplied by" Two people solved it for "plus" soooo......

Sqrt5 *sqrt15
sqrt75
Simplify Sqrt25*3
5sqrt3

rather than
sqrt5+15
sqrt20
simplify sqrt4*5
2sqrt5

Tough one because of the vague instructions from the teacher IMO

This is where you go up to the teacher and demand half credit on the question on your exam, .

It's been over 10 years since calc II in college...and I was stumped by an 8th grade problem. I'd feel bad if it didn't prove what I already knew...all that crap was useless!

It was a poorly written question. However, 'and' generally signifies addition.

So the most appropriate answer is the 2√5 that people came up with.

Perhaps the teacher left out the phrase 'of the product of' (Find sqrt of the product of 5 and 15) . That would signify multiplication.
